Church Plant Chartering Guidelines

A church plant is a new congregation that operates under the support and guidance of sponsoring churches, mentors, and the conference’s planting systems. Church plants are in a developmental stage, dependent on external resources for guidance, training, and funding. As a church plant matures, it moves toward becoming a fully recognized, chartered local church. This transition signifies that the congregation has reached a level of self-sufficiency and stability, no longer requiring the same level of external support. A chartered church is considered fully autonomous, with the ability to stand on its own, participate in connectional funding, and take full responsibility for its own ministry and mission.

The movement from church plant status to chartered church is not about membership status but represents the maturation of the congregation from infancy to a fully established church. It is an intentional step toward becoming a self-sustaining body of believers capable of fulfilling its mission and vision, including responsibility for financial contributions and connectional support.
