Fasting and Prayer for ACE Plenary Gathering

Madison Vick   -

Queen Esther requested that Mordecai and the people fast prior to her entering King Ahasuerus’ presence on behalf of her people (Esther 4). There are numerous other scriptural examples where people sought to draw nearer to God through prayer and fasting. After failure by the disciples to cast the demon out of the boy in Mark 9:14-29, they asked Jesus why they failed. His reply, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”

Fasting and Prayer for ACE Plenary Gathering

On May 30, 2026, at 7 AM CT, 102 Area Committee on Episcopacy (ACE) representatives (1 clergy & 1 laity from each of our 51 Annual Conferences) along with 14 Global Episcopacy Committee (GEC) members, our 9 Bishops, and a handful of support personnel will meet to fix the GMC Episcopal Areas for the 2026-2032 sexennial. In so doing, they will form 8 Area Committees on Episcopacy which will discern which Episcopal Nominees to interview and the rank those nominees according to which of them would best serve their Episcopal Area. While the meeting itself is no small task, neither is the responsibility with which the ACE members are tasked.

In Matthew 19:16:26, after counseling the rich young ruler, Jesus explains how difficult it is for the rich to be saved. When His disciples reflect upon the impossibility of being saved, Jesus tells them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Let us seek Holy Spirit’s guidance, vision, and wisdom. With the importance and enormity of the ACE Plenary Gathering and the discernment of the Area Episcopacy Committees, I invite you to join me in corporate Prayer and Fasting for 3 days from sundown on May 25, 2026, until sundown on May 28, 2026. During our fast at 7 AM CT on May 26th, 27th, and 28th a short devotion and prayer will be posted to the Heartland Annual Conference of the GMC Facebook page to help focus and guide our prayers on those days. Feel free to add your own prayers in the comments of those posts, as Holy Spirit leads. An additional devotion and prayer will be posted to the same page at 7 AM CT on Saturday, May 30th, as the ACE Plenary Gathering convenes. For those led to fast from food, if this is your first time fasting from food, here is a link to some scripture and guidance on fasting.
